For David R. Ray HM2/USN. Medal of Honor.
Dave, I will forever hold the good times we had in high school in my heart along with the friendship we shared in highest regard. Though we lost contact, we took the same path of being Navy Corpsmen and then to the Fleet Marines to serve with our brother Marines. I went to my knees when I learned of your death and the passage where Christ told us that there is no greater love than this, that a man gives his life for his friend. During an enemy ambush, you were wounded five times while taking care of your wounded brother Marines. Though mortally wounded, you continued to care for them until an enemy grenade fell amoung you. We talked many times of the ultimate sacrifice of the Marines. You did not hesitate in protecting our brothers and rolled on top of it shielding them from the blast and absorbing it thereby giving your own life in exchange for thiers.
I have shed many tears for those whose names on the wall we knew, my hand on your name and the brothers of my platoon I lost. My heart aches as I think of each of you I will keep you alive in my heart until I join you. I wonder if God will let us terrorize the streets of gold in your TR4? I love you my brother.
" And when he gets to heaven, to St. Peter he will tell, Another Marine reporting sir, I've served my time in hell "

This is for a close friend and relative passed. PFC Javier Ramirez was from McAllen, TX. He was stationed at Fort Hood with his new wife along with my ex husband which is was his cousin.
Javier was a combat medic. He was sent to Operation Desert Storm. He was scared and excited at the same time. His new wife couldn't handle the fact that he was going and he asked me to take him to his unit for deployment. He was a wonderful friend and husband. I helped deliver his first child.
When he returned we were so happy and excited as we stood along the roadside waving our little flags as the buses passed us one by one. After he made it home and was only home not less than that first year, he was killed in a motorcycle accident. His wife was so distraught she later took her own life to be with him. They both are missed terribly. Their 2 children are grown now and although they look identical to each of them, I hope they knew how wonderful their parents were. |
